Becoming Light
2021 · Lagos
In the soft blue breath of dawn, she tilts her face toward the sky — a quiet awakening. Her skin, part night and part sun, catches the whispers of yellow butterflies rising like living fragments of hope. Each wingbeat is a story of transformation — of girlhood giving way to womanhood, of silence unfolding into voice.
The patterned veil that overlays her is not a barrier but a memory — a lace of heritage, culture, and time. Through its delicate openings, light breaks through, scattering like stars across her form. Her golden face glows against the deep indigo of the background, as if the universe itself is responding to her becoming.
“Becoming Light” speaks of renewal — of shedding fear, of claiming brilliance, of finding freedom in fragility. The butterflies are not visitors; they are pieces of her spirit, newly awakened and unafraid to soar.
In this African dreamscape of color and pattern, she is both rooted and rising — no longer just reflecting the light, but becoming it.
